PM says Russia to add penalty to Kiev’s $3 bln Eurobond repayment
GORKI, Moscow Region, Dec 21 (PRIME) -- Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the government on Monday to prepare claims to international court against Ukraine over non-payment of a U.S. $3 billion Eurobond and to include penalties in the claims.
“(We need to) charge everything, including penalties which will accrue by the Ukrainian side by that time,” Medvedev said. “And there is no doubt that they will not pay, the policies of the Ukrainian government are well known to us: this is in fact, manipulation and violation of international obligations – this is how we must treat this.”
On December 18, Ukraine introduced a moratorium on debt repayment to Russia. The $3 billion Eurobond matures on December 20. Kiev has 10 more days to redeem the debt without extra charges, Medvedev said.
